ORIGIN - Located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, in an area of age pre-cambrian, with 550 to 4.000 million of years, the underground of Maricá belonged to the continent of Gondwana, that fragmented in the era mesozoic, generating South America, Africa, Australia and Antarctica. The area of Maricá was united to the current area of Moçamedes and Benguela, in Angola (Africa).

SOIL - Cuted highways in hills of the municipal district expose round stones from old seas extinguished a long time behind.

SEDIMENT - Inside of our sea, to tell us a history more recent of the geology of Maricá, there are rocks as sand-stones, that show among your grains, remains of shells and of other sea animals.

Due we still have not a geologist in the group of Maricá, we won't arrest ourselves to clans or classifications complex of rocks, but to show a little of the many types of rocks that our municipal district has. The help of CPRM was fundamental for the updating of those geology pages.
